Use Review payroll and Audit to trace an amount through normalized source evidence, the Canvas rule, and any recorded correction. Supported replay and recovery preserve earlier calculation evidence rather than overwriting it.
Prerequisites
- Access to the selected payroll account and period.
- A calculated run for line-level evidence.
Trace an employee amount
- Open Review payroll and select an employee.
- Select a contributing line item.
- Review its date, location, earning stream, rule, amount, explanation, and retained source reference.
- Open Audit.
- Choose the employee and operating day.
- Expand automatic lines, manual adjustments, and resolutions to reconcile the daily and period totals.
The worksheet separates automatic pay, manual adjustments, resolutions, and the final employee total. Tip and photo pool views also show source, allocated, unassigned, participant, rule, and rounding context.
Review run history
- In Audit, find Run event history.
- Review timestamp, safe actor reference, event, safe metadata, hash/reference, and state transition.
- Review the available settings, mapping, and calculation version references, recorded decisions, and balancing status for the run.
- Inspect the available earlier and newer result evidence when a recovery or resolution created a new version. If the needed version is not exposed in your workspace, ask support using the period and safe run reference.
How version history works
- A calculation is tied to a locked snapshot of source data and settings.
- Applying a resolution or supported saved-data recovery keeps the earlier result and creates a new version.
- Recalculating a saved resolution does not contact the provider again.
- A current result does not rewrite historical results.
- Retained comparison state is separate from provisional/final calculation state.
Preserving versions does not imply that every screen has a side-by-side difference viewer or that you can edit or restore an old result in place. Retention and deletion details are covered by the Privacy Policy.
Expected result
You can explain an amount from its source evidence through the rule and any reviewed decision, then identify the exact calculation version that produced it.
Privacy boundary
Your private workspace can display authorized employee names and pay amounts. Do not treat an audit screenshot as public just because it includes a safe reference. The public MCP connector uses a restricted evidence format and is not a way to retrieve raw reports, provider credentials, or unrestricted source rows. A linked provider record may require separate access to that provider.
Troubleshooting
- No line evidence appears: confirm the selected period has a persisted calculation and that you loaded the detailed workspace, not only the forecast snapshot.
- A provider link is absent: not every source reference has a safe external URL.
- Totals changed after a resolution: inspect the saved decision and available before-and-after evidence. Request help locating the earlier version if needed; do not assume a missing history control means the old result was overwritten.
- Comparison is pending: retained comparison is an independent audit state and does not by itself determine calculation finality.
